Yellow – Spain where I live, Green – Germany where I was born, Red – where I have been with linked galleries, Blue – where I have been without linked galleries
As a scientist, I have been lucky enough to have a career that occasionally sends me far beyond the walls of a laboratory. Over the years, my work has taken me to places as distant and diverse as Australia, Japan, Latin America, and Hawaii. Destinations that many people dream of visiting, and that I have had the privilege to explore along the way. With every journey, I have tried to absorb as much of the world’s cultural and natural richness as possible. From bustling cities to remote landscapes, each trip has offered something unique—stories, colours, sounds, and encounters that stay with me long after returning home.
Beyond that, my life has carried me to a number of places for extended stretches of time. I was fortunate enough to live and work in both Canberra and Perth for several months each, and more recently spent a four-month sabbatical in Santiago de Chile. Yet the move that has shaped my life most profoundly was leaving Germany for Spain, where I’ve now made my home for more than 16 years.
In most cases, I have carried a camera with me, trying to capture the essence of these experiences: the small details, the unexpected moments, the beauty that often reveals itself between destinations. Here, I will share some of those snapshots and memories with you, one trip at a time.
